2006: The Victorian Year in Steam

2006: The Victorian Year in Steam The 'lucky' thirteenth production in this very popular annual almanac: the usual excellent production standard is continued in this all colour, all digital DVD which records the ever-changing Victorian rail scene.

2006 saw a great variety of operation on both main and tourist lines. The re-opened Bendigo line saw steam for the first time. Double-headed K class ran to Ballarat for the first time in many years. Triple-headed Na class ran at Puffing Billy to mark 8 A's return to service after a five-year overhaul. The ever-popular R class ran mainline trips to Echuca, Ballarat and Geelong. We get "up close and personal" with the internals of R707's boiler and firebox to see views not normally available to the railfan. J515 journeyed to Benalla then ended the year on hire to the Maldon Tourist Railway. For the first time two funeral trains ran on the Puffing Billy Railway. Loco birthday celebrations as well as suburban shuttles on the heavily graded Glen Waverley and picturesque Hurstbridge lines added more interesting vision for the year.

A two hour plus almanac featuring over 40 operations, including:

  • Bellarine Peninsual Railway Easter trains;
  • J 515 on hire to VGR, Maldon;
  • Driver training specials;
  • Cabrides on K 163 and J 515;
  • R 761 on the "new" Bendigo line;
  • Two funeral trains on Puffing Billy;
  • Steam on the 1 in 30 Glen Waverley line.
