2005: The Victorian Year in Steam

2005: The Victorian Year in Steam A great variety of steam action on both main and tourist lines. Glen Waverley and Bairnsdale saw steam for the first time in over 20 years.

Double headers were in plentiful supply, including Y+D3 and G+Na combinations. The ongoing Regional Fast Rail Project provided new tracks for steam to traverse and infrastructure changes saw steam pass semaphore signals at Bacchus Marsh for the final time.

A two hour plus almanac featuring over 40 operations, including:

  • spectacular aerial shots of K 160 on the VGR;
  • G 42 double heading with 12A, 6A and 7A bunker to bunker;
  • Double headers Y + D3, D3 + K, K + K;
  • '5A' on the Olde Gembrook Pass;
  • Steam on Glen Waverley line 1 in 30 grades;
  • Thomas Day at Emerald, VGR mixed to Castlemaine;
  • G 42 journeying to Gembrook on the regular Pass;
  • CFA and wood cut specials and G 42 on spark emission trials;
  • Driver training specials, D3 & K up Ingliston Bank;
  • first steam to Bairnsdale for over 20 years;
  • inside Bacchus Marsh signal box;
  • footplate rides on Y 112, G 42, K 160 and V 1209.

A 'must have' production for the steam lover or historian's library.
